Scaling up with practice
At Gurukul, we learn and practise dance items that are not just restricted to the repertoire of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra's choreography. Solo dance compositions by Guru Sutapa Talukdar are very much a part of our vibrant course structure. Borrowing from both Sanskrit and Oriya literature, these dance items create a visual grammar that accommodates different kinds of movement, while being rooted in the stylistic temperament and refined technique of Odissi, as established by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. With the regular practise of these items along with the older choreographies of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, students at Gurukul develop their mettle over Odissi, with the ability to combine intricate footwork, complex rhythmic patterns and abhinaya.
