Breaking Boundaries Expanding Horizons
I believe that just the way young dancers in a creative team’s performance needs to be improved slowly by slowly, those stalwarts who have done commendable works in the artists’ world too deserve to be showcased and viewed in the modern world. Unfortunately, not all young girls and boys get this opportunity. Within the limited means in my Gurukul, I try to bring well known artists troupes from outside and give them the exposure that is needed to be a good dancer. For example, we showcased in Kolkata, the stunning joint choreography by Shree Datuk Ramli Ibrahim and Shree Bichitrananda Swain. This presentation was called ‘Odissi on High’. Five Kolkata based young upcoming dancers, who are all male, who are working hard at establishing themselves as a “Guru”, were given the exposure to show their works in a presentation of Gurukul ‘Gurudakshina’. We’ve joined hands with companies like Exide etc. to work for the underprivileged CSR students by giving them a professional level of skill sets that can provide them with employment opportunities. We have worked tirelessly in these endeavours. Productions like ‘Vivartan’ which was done entirely with the CSR students, are an evergreen desire to continue to produce. Here in Gurukul, we have tried our best to improve in both the dance as well as artist industry.
